Acheivements

Human achievement is astounding.  How can anyone not just step back and marvel at what we have done in such a short time on this planet.  Nothing on this planet before humans could even build their own shelter....  We’ve tamed nature in so many ways, and somehow we haven’t managed to kill everyone and everything on this planet yet.

And yet, it goes mostly ignore by all, especially the media.  I had to learn that there is another Mars Rover today on a blog.  A blog....  Not the news, not the media, but someone sharing an obscure link from YouTube on the landing of the vehicle....  Pitiful.

But that’s been the entire history of the space program here in the US.  Completely ignored for the most part, unless some kind of drama occurs.  Most of the footage from the Apollo missions, shot live, were not broadcast....

At least the media is paying SOME attention to the billionaires looking to mine asteroids.  That concept alone gave me so much hope in humanity, that it might truly survive the crap that happens on this planet on a daily basis.  I would do anything to work for such a company, that strives, as a privately owned company, to reach beyond the current limitations of humanity, and explore the potentials of the great beyond.

I’ve stood next to skyscrapers and monuments that boggle the imagination.  Its funny how much has been lost to time, building the pyramids for example, how did it happen?  Everyone has so many theories..., and yet they still come up with new evidence every now and then on how else it could have happened.

As much as I’m amazed at how far we’ve come in this existence on this planet, I’m also disheartened by so many other things.  We spend such time on pass times, and simple enjoyments, that so many of us have passed on such amazing potentials.  One of the big ideas of Star Trek was there would be a binding moment sometime in the future, and humankind would rise up from all the pettiness and resolve our differences and work together for the greater good.  Such a great ideal....

I do not know what will come, except for human achievement to continue to amaze, and human shortcomings to continue to depress.  It would be nice to assist in some kind of great human achievement, but as of now, I’m just a casual observer, watching the world as best I can, from somewhere amungst this declining society.

What’s your favorite human achievement?  I do have a few I like, footprints on the moon, a satellite orbiting Saturn that has uncovered some of the most amazing scientific space finds ever, harnessing explosions in the internal combustion engine, computers....  The list goes on, but music I think wins out, but I want to know what you think, so leave a comment with what your favorite human achievement is!
