The Death of the Social Pariah

One of the worst things about human behavior is childishness.  I can understand it when you are a child, but sometimes, its like people never truly do.  If you make an adult decision, then stand by it.  Don’t get all petty later.

One of the biggest issues with this problem is the fact that kids become adults far too quickly.  Girls are pushing out children at an alarmingly early age.  And its very obvious to point out, they just aren’t ready for the responsibility.

The idea of the social pariah has almost vanished.  When watching historical dramas, its amazing to see how people were so shamed if they acted a certain way in the public eye.  One can tell that age is long gone by looking at social media in general.  But it gets nothing but worse when you experience it outside of social media.

Who is in the wrong when someone says, “I’ll stay home and watch the child while you go out and have fun.”  The person that goes out to have fun, or the person that allowed it to happen and got snippy about the other person actually leaving?  I had some friends that did that quite a bit in a place I used to live, and it got infuriating.  They were baiting each other by telling the other to go.

In the dramas that Lisa and I enjoy to watch, that would have gotten people shunned.  But now, its almost celebrated.  People go completely crazy with underhanded jabs on Facebook and Twitter.  From the stars to the friends you know and trust, its just an evolving cycle of petty childishness that is doing nothing but getting worse.

Before, you’d only cut down someone in private, now its done on the world’s stage.  I have no clue what to think about it as time goes on, because its thrust in my face.  Ignoring it really isn’t an option, because if you miss it, then you’ll be out of the conversation about it later.

Its definitely to the point to where hearing people yelling at each other in their yard has nothing on what people will put about each other online.  The shame people put on each other, and always somehow not get shame themselves, is truly amazing.

We’ve turned into a society where there is no shame in being someone who shames another person.  The issue is, when does this become redundant?  When will the silly ‘games’ that some people play to guilt trip people backfire in their faces?  Or will it go on, just getting worse?  I fear the latter.

Its gotten well past the point of me being ashamed to be associated with those people.  The first thing I do is cut them loose.  I will not have toxic things around me.  It kills the things I cherish most in life, something Lisa tries to cultivate in me daily.  I live to be inspired by life, not saddened by how people act, and definitely not awed by what people get away with.  Yes, the day of the social pariah is just about gone, simply because others enjoy dirty laundry.
