Things you can learn from a Kitten

I’ve always loved being an observer.  Watching something and how it acts and surmising things about how it was brought up, or what makes it work.  Its all learning and science.  Its honestly so much fun.

When we brought home the new kitten, Nyx, we knew a few things, but had to guess at a few others.  One of the major things was, out at our Aunt’s place, she said that some of the cats were vanishing without a trace.  Fact is, she’s a farmer and kind of expects such things and didn’t give it a second thought.

One of the first big thing we noticed was that Nyx was very intent on eyeing the ceiling fans.  At first they freaked her out when they were on, and when they were still, she’d still keep an eye on them.  One night when we turned one on with her being able to see, she flipped out.

Most would find it odd, but we quickly surmised that the cats out at our Aunt’s place are being picked off by birds of prey.  More than likely an owl as the hawks are only just starting to migrate in for the season.

But beyond that, there are other fun things you can learn from a kitten.  Like how awesome naps are and how you need to live your life by playing hard.  But most of all, the best thing to learn from a kitten is that its awesome to wrap up in a loved one’s arms and just enjoy the cuddles.

Lisa and I already knew that, but its renewed our faith in the prospect.  Physical things, such as cuddling, petting, and so forth, have been far too underrated for far too long.  If you love someone, touch them, hold hands every second you can.

Anyways, that’s some of the small things I’ve learned from Nyx.  She’s a crazy kitten and has been a wonderful addition to our family.  Lisa commented the other night that she’d not seen me smile as much in some time.  Its true for her as well.  There’s a certain joy in giving an animal a better life.  Food, shelter, love....  Its all stuff we kind of take for granted.  So yeah...mainly, I’ve learned to appreciate my wonderful wife so much more.  Now...I just hope the Christmas tree survives when we put it up....
